Liberica coffee, or Coffea liberica, is a distinct and different species of coffee from both Arabica (Coffea arabica) and Robusta (Coffea canephora). Native to Western Africa, Liberica thrives at lower altitudes and higher temperatures, making it ideal for smallholder farmers.
Our Liberica Excelsa variety is celebrated for its distinctive and complex fruity flavor profile that sets it apart from more common coffee varieties like Arabica and Robusta. The fruity notes in Liberica are often described as bold and exotic, showcasing flavors that can range from dark berries to tropical fruit and floral undertones.
In a well-roasted Liberica, you might find hints of jackfruit, mango, or lychee, creating a lush and almost wine-like quality. This tropical fruitiness is balanced with a natural sweetness, making it rich yet surprisingly refreshing. Some Liberica beans also reveal a tangy acidity with nuances of stone fruits like peach or apricot, adding layers of complexity to each sip.
When brewed, these fruity notes can shine with either a syrupy body or a lighter mouthfeel, depending on the roast and brewing method. The result is an unforgettable cup with an unmistakably fruity character—a journey for the adventurous coffee drinker who craves flavors beyond the usual coffee profile.
A portion of all profits from this coffee is donated to Pneuma Connect for missions projects within the Ugandan communities where these beans were grown.
The only thing that keeps up with the fruity scent of this coffee is the taste! It is simply WOW!
